We do PBIS! But wait...What does that mean?
PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) is a proactive, school-wide approach to teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors. At its core, PBIS focuses on creating a positive learning environment by setting clear expectations for behavior and consistently recognizing and rewarding students when they meet those expectations.
Here’s how PBIS works:

Clear Expectations: We define a set of school-wide behavior expectations that are easy for students to understand. At CCE, we S.A.I.L. by being Safe, Appropriate, Involved, Learners.

Teaching Positive Behaviors: Instead of just reacting to bad behavior, PBIS is about teaching students what positive behavior looks like in different settings like classrooms, hallways, the cafeteria, and during recess.

Reinforcing Good Behavior: We actively recognize and reward students for following the behavior expectations. This might include giving students tickets paired with praise to encourage them to keep making positive choices.

Consistent Responses: PBIS promotes consistent responses to both positive and negative behaviors. When issues arise, we address them using pre-defined strategies that help students learn from their mistakes and improve their behavior.

Data-Driven Decisions: We track behavior data to understand patterns and target areas where additional problem-solving is needed. This helps us continually refine our strategies and ensure every student is supported.
The goal of PBIS is to build a positive, safe, and supportive school environment where students can thrive both academically and socially. By focusing on what students do well and teaching them how to improve, we create a culture here at CCE where everyone feels valued and successful.
PBIS Ticket Explanations
Blue Ticket: Awarded to individual students for meeting our SAIL expectations.Once our school earns 10,000 Blue Tickets, we will celebrate with a fun, school-wide event!
Yellow Ticket: Given to an entire class when they demonstrate excellent behavior as a group. Classes earn a celebration for all once they earn 15 yellow tickets.
Orange Ticket: Earned by students for showing outstanding behavior when we have a substitute teacher.
When a student goes above and beyond, they can also earn a special Big Blue Ticket from their teacher. This year, instead of calling home to share the news, teachers will photocopy Big Blue Tickets and send them with your child so they can proudly share their success with you!
Why Do We Document Behavior Concerns at School?
At Clear Creek Elementary, we strive to create a positive and safe learning environment for all students. A key part of this effort is documenting behavior concerns, which helps us identify patterns, address challenges, and provide the right support for each student. Here’s how we approach it:
Minors, Majors, and Serious Behaviors: We use the district’s behavior matrix to classify behaviors as either minor, major, or serious. This matrix outlines specific examples of behaviors and the appropriate responses. Minor behaviors might include disruptions like talking out of turn or not following directions. Major behaviors, such as physical aggression, are more serious and may require more immediate or significant intervention.
By documenting these behaviors, we can better understand a student’s needs and use the data to drive our decisions. This may include reteaching expectations or providing Tier 2 instruction. We also use this data as a PBIS committee team to see patterns and trends for problem-solving. For example, this year, we made changes to our recess and lunch schedules based on what data was showing us from last year. Our goal is to help every student learn from their behavior and make positive choices. With your support, we can ensure students are safe, engaged, and successful at school.
